I need help with 4r100 issues

I have a '02 F350 Dually with 88 K on it and a 7.3 and a 4r100 ( Torqueshift) transmission. Last week while coming home from a trip I experienced a sensation I can only describe as jerking somewhat similar to an engine miss. When I first felt it I was accelerating but I still felt it on decelleration as well and then the O/D light started flashing. I pulled over and shut the key off and restarted the truck to reset the light and it was ok the rest of the way home ( only about 7 miles ) the next day I checked the fluid and it was up to the top and doesn't smell burnt so I drove it to town and it did it again. I scanned the truck and found P1728 and P1744 TC solinoid error. I drove it in monitor mode and when the T/C slip desired was 0, I still saw about 200-300 rpm slip. I know thats bad but if the solinoid is faulty and not calling for a complete lock up I think perhaps the converter could be saved. Any thoughts out there?

No, you do not. 2003 was the first year of the TorqShift and it was never paired with the 7.3L. You have a 4R100 transmission.

P1744 means Torque Converter Clutch System Stuck in Off Position. That could be the solenoid, or the torque converter control valve, or a bad seal, or a bad torque converter.

The first thing to check is if you can feel the solenoid click and move when 12 volts is applied across the two terminals. If that works, then check the control valve. It could also be the seals on the input shaft. If all of that checks out it is almost certainly the converter.

My apologizes I meant to put (Not Torque shift) I do know the difference but I was thinking there were some 5 speeds installed behind the 7.3 so I wanted to be clear what I had. Again I am sorry for the type-o. My thoughts were that mechanically there are several possibilities for a T/C slip code or condition, but my interpretation of the IDS description of the solenoid code made me think that the MCU seeing the solenoid fault could only be an electrical condition, such as open circuit, short to power/ground etc. stemming from the solenoid or a wiring issue. Is this correct ? Further I realize that even though the solenoid may have caused this problem I may still have to buy a converter due to dammage from the slip condition. The truck was only driven about 15 easy miles since the condition manifested. Do you have any other thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

There were no five speed automatics behind the 7.3L. This code indicates the the converter clutch has not been applied when it should be. The converter won't have any damage from this. It is NOT an electrical problem, that sets a different code. It is a mechanical problem with the solenoid, control valve, the seals on the input shaft, or the converter itself.
