hello out there who makes upholstery covers for front pickup seats, will early mustang work or has someone bolted seats from something else in that will fit would be nice if they folded down. they have to be lowbacks or they will look dumb. rockin a 65 merc 5 window 302 auto
Fred from Maine does excellent upholstery work In these old Econolines. I don't think he hangs out on this forum. He does sell the covers that you can install on your own seats.
One problem with our trucks is that the seats need to be narrow to keep them from hitting the dog house lid.
If the frame and foam are still good no broken springs etc. the cover is a simple box. depending on the year a slight tapper to the seat back from the hip to shoulder. any half way decent upholstery shop should be able to knock these out in no time. I'm no upholster' but when i get to this part i may try to do them my self. I'm not doing vinyl do to the no a/c thing. plus the old zig zag likely won't handle it. I found a fabric called Sunbrella. it's used for boat seats and bimini tops. comes in a wide spectrum of colors. its a bit coarse depending on the weight fabric but it kinda fells old school. It cleans up well and resists the sun light. Suggest to order it on line its spendy to get it from G street or joanns. Velour is more commonly used softer and much cheaper but frail, snags and pills easily.
Got a look at some of the Fred Carello's work at his sight. Your right, great work and tastefully done. My drivers frame is beat up and the vinyl is gone as is the foam on the passengers side plus there a miss match right seat back is slightly tappered where the left is square. I assume different years. mines a club wagon and both rear benches are long gone. I'll try to fit a center bench seat from an A100 but any advise on a source for a seat frame is appreciated.
Fred tries to keep some of each style in stock. If you only get replacement upholstery he will give you plenty of advice to make sure the job turns out right. you can find seats on ebay but they are usually rediculous in price. You might try vintage-vans.com, there is a parts wanted/for sale section on their forum.
If you dont go with the original frames and choose something like a porsche or Fiero seat, Fred has done those as well and has the patterns for everything he has done.

smsautofabrics.com = original upholstery material - molded foam rubber - sewn seat covers.
The econline brochure I have mentioned a deluxe molded rubber cushion as an option. The the front seats I have are spring steel foundation with batting and a thin foam pad. Is the foam you mentioned the same or a complete cushion like a more modern seat seat? I guess my question is what supports them accross the seat fram rails?
