1999 SD Extra Cab or Super Cab? The rear door on the passenger side will not open. I assume a cable broke and it seems that the top latch will not work. Any help with how to get it open so I can fix the problem will be greatly appreciated. I have used up all my simple minded attempts and now scratching my head.
Interior panels are your best bet, the top half of the rear door is just held on by clips so you can pull straight out once you work your fingers around the edges. The bottom is just held on by 2 screws (forget the size probably 10mm) and two push pins and then it lifts right up and off form there you can access all the cables that lead to the latches. I am actually having the opposite problem my rear door doesn't like to shut, i need to replace the bottom latch.

Thanks for the info. It was just that simple!
My problem was that the cable that actuates the top latch had broke at the "seat" on the latch mechanism. It fell off the cable shroud holder but the cable was still attached to the latch. Therefore when I pulled on the handle the whole cable/shroud moved and not just the wire. I was able to get creative with some zip-ties and hopefully it will last atleast thru deer season. If not, then It only takes a couple minutes to get to it. Thought it was going to be worse.
