i have a 99 7.3 bought it 2 years ago it ran great a week after i bought it it started leaking fuel into the coolant. i replaced oil cooler and other small things but still got fuel and oil in the coolant. the motor started to hydro lock so i said i had enough and pick up a 7.3 engine with 140k miles on it. i dropped that motor in all was good for a month. now im getting mass amounts of fuel in the coolant. so much fuel that my whole engine bay and passenger side tire/suspension is covered in fuel from spraying out the over flow. what is going on?
that is the only possible way for fuel to get in the coolant, as that is the only point where the meet.
the injector cups are what hold the injector in the head. they sit in the water jacket so that engine coolant can flow around them cooling the injectors. above this cup is the high pressure fuel rail that feeds the injectors, if the seal between the cast iron head and the brass injector cup becomes broken, the high pressure fuel will blow straight into the low pressure coolant unrestricted.
so, unless you have a cracked head, the cup(s) are your problem. it is a fairly easy repair.(if you have the tools and the know how) just remove valve covers, injectors and replace cups...
