Exaust

Ok I have a stock rebuilt 390, 250 73 truck. Right now I have a homemade exaust on it that leaks and goes down to like an inch in one spot where they broke it and welded it back together. I am going to get dual exaust with glasspacks, and I am wondering what size all of you think would be best for me. I want it to have the most power and sound pretty good. I use it as an everyday truck take it to school, use it for work, take it to the mountains and sometimes pull 8000 to 10000 pounds. What would be the best size, 2in, 2.5 3? thank you

Iv got 2 1/4" pipes on mine with 28" long thrush glass packs. Its quiet until you get on it then it has a nice tone. Mine is a 400 but I would think it would be somewhat similar on a 390

I would go with 2-1/2" pipe because unless it has mandrel bends, it will neck down to a smaller size at every bend.

For glass packs, I would go with the Thrush brand because they have a perforated core instead of a louvered core like a lot of others. Adjust the length to the sound you want. Longer equals quieter.

Speedway Motors has about the cheapest mandrel bent exhaust tubing kit starting at around $140 for a 2.5-inch system.

A 2.25-inch on a low torquey FE is OK too.

Get a set of headers and the mandrel kit and have at it. Magnaflow makes a quality glasspack with holes not louvers as well.

Go with whatever is cheaper 2 1/4 or 2 1/2. In all honesty you are not going to notice a difference in HP/TQ unless you are talking a considerably built engine, or you go too big (like dual 3" pipes)
