i have a 76 f250 and am trying to decide what size of exhaust to put on it.
it has a stock 2v 390 i was considering 2-1/4" duals with glass packs that dump before the rear axle. others have told me to use2-1/2 or3" what are advantages and disadvantages of the different sizes (performance, fuel economy and sound) And any suggestions on length of glasspacks?
I'd like a heathy tone without the db of straight pipes

I run 2.5" on my 446 cubic inch FE. I think if you go with that, you can handle most FE builds with ease. If you start talking 500+ Cubes and 6500+ revs, you can splurge for the 3".
Stan at Ford Powertrain Applications, FPA, made my headers and thought that 2.5" was adequate. He's got a lot of experinece with exhaust and FEs as well.
If you have your heart set on glasspacks, get them fairly long, or you'll be angering the neighbors and looking for earplugs on a longer drive. I've got a nice 0 miles set of Dynomax race magnum 3" glasspacks that I'm gonna sell cheap. I never even drove my truck before I changed to the Hooker Aerochambers.
