I have a question for everyone
my 2006 f150 has the 5.4 triton v8 with 3.55 gears. I am easy on the gas and do not drive aggressive since i am coming out of a 92 f350 7.3 non turbo, which everone knows has no get up and go
i was looking forward to decent fuel milage and was very disappointed on my first tank to only get 12 mpg in mostly middle of the road city/highway driving. The truck has 134k miles on it. What are some things I can do to increase the fuel milage? with the 27 gallon tank I got, i am out of gas at 300 miles
Thanks
Are you saying you bought a used truck with 134K on it? There's no way to know what might nave been changed on it or worn out or broken. You would have to run a complete diagnostic on it including a compression check. OTOH, I have a 2007 I bought new, V6 5-speed, and it only gets around 16, so maybe 12 is not so bad on a V8 auto.
My '05 is a 4x4 with a 5.4 and 3.73 gears and the last time I hand calculated, I got 16.03 mpg. My typical driving routine is about 75 - 80% highway. The truck has 53,000 miles (really!).
My 2005 F150 5.4 V8 auto with 3.73 gears gets about 11 city mpg. On the highway I get about 16.5 mpg. Most of my driving is city. I currently have 67K miles and i have owned it since it had 4 miles. I do have some mods such as K&N CAI, Cat back exhaust, programmer (custom tuned) so I dont have a power issued but my milage has gone down a little. I knew getting this rig that I couldnt worry about mpg's but I would say the only thing you could do is add a programmer to help with shift points. Dont add intake or exhaust and just be easy on gas and you may see a slight and I mean slight increase.
I just bought a 2005 F150 4x4 Lariat super crew with the 5.4L ( it only has 34000 miles on it), I have a 100 mile round trip commute, 85% hwy, and I get 18 mpg. I keep the revs under 2100, stay at the speed limit, and keep the truck light as possable.
