76 F250 DIFFERENTIAL QUESTION

I have a 76 f250 with a dana 60 rear and dana 44 front axle. I know that something in the front diff is broken because the 4x4 doesnt engage. But my question is wheter or not it is hurting it to drive it in 2wd? It has been parked since i found out. When i went to change the diff oil it was bone dry and when i filled it back up and changed the gasket and drove down my street, all if the fluid was leaking out of the back of the diff. I havent driven it since then because i didnt want to destroy my front diff. I have recently acquired another truck thats a 78 f150 that i have to take the tires to get them mounted and need to use the truck. Will it destroy anything to go about 10 miles at no more than 45?

You may need to decipher what actually failed. No one can give you an honest answer with the information given.

*edit. Imho open lockouts and no front shaft you'll be fine. But thats your call

IF you have manual front hubs which are in free position and the truck is in 2 wheel drive, nothing will be turning in the front diff. You should be fine driving any distance.

If not sure, have a helper watch the front drive shaft as you idle by. It should not be turning.

Hopefully you are fine 4x2, but make sure you have the part time transfer case not the full time.
