Originally that was the way they were supposed to be removed. There are screw holes that can be used to put the shroud back together if you did want to cut it apart.
yes, im going to cut the upper half of the fan shroud, splice/reroute the existing wires
on both ends. I was hoping ford had a pig tail, since so many have been cut!
It is not common to have damage to the engine side of the harness. I am not sure if the pigtail is available. I have never tried to get one. Maybe someone can chime in on that.
My fan munched the wires coming off of the clutch a few months ago. Didn't really want to buy a $200+ fan clutch, so I ran to Napa, and snagged the shrink tube that has adhesive on the inside of it. Soldered the wires back together, and used the shrinktube to seal my repair, everything works. Just make sure you leave yourself enough slack to be able to stick the wires back up where they belong, or it will pretty quickly get into those wires again. Also, make sure you spend the extra bucks and get the shrink tube that seals, don't try to use tape, or the cheap shrink tube with no adhesive.
In my case, the wires got munched when the outer shroud got forced into the fan after running over a Subaru.... LOL (Good advice on the water pump tho, I'll remember that!)
I went through this in June. In my case, the 2nd alt locked up, and tore the pulley's off the front of the motor, than the belt wrapped around the fan, and ripped the wires off. Getting the shroud out the first time sucked! In total I did it 3X, as I ran it a couple day's till the part's came in.
Take the top radiator mounts loose, re-route wiring between radiator and upper support, remove top radiator hose, remove vent hose from radiator, remove two screws from top of shroud, pull back on radiator, then the shroud comes out in one piece, no cutting necessary.
I did find and can look it up that you can get both plugs as pigtails.
I should know I have a set for my fan control project that I put on
the back burner for now. Here is the test box with the plugs.
Iv never seen a wire actually zip tied to the Radiator like this
Im open to better idea's! I think with the suction of the fan you have to secure the wires away from it. I think that's why fords idea was short/straight...
