Master Cylinder lines

I have a leak in one of the line from the MC to ABS unit on my 97 F150, 5.4. 3 dr,179K.
Do the bends, twists and short length of flexible line of the OE lines serve a valid purpose or done so to aid installation and avoid line-to-line contact?

I have replaced all lines from ABS to all cylinders and will replace both MC to ABS lines, just want to know how much extra length I need to allow.

The "extra" bends a twists are there to absorb vibrations and allow flexing that would otherwise damage a taut steel line.
