D3ve

your head is a d3ve which is a decent iron head used on the 460,the head to be avoided is a D2ve one year only head

The D3V casting code started in '73 but was used in heads cast all the way up into the early '80's. The casting code is not the same as the date code.

Date codes are sometimes included on parts. The first digit is the year. To determine the decade, refer to the part number's prefix. The second digit is the month. (Note that the character "I" is not used.) The third digit is the day of the month.

A typical date code will look like this: 6M10 or 5K12.
6M10 decodes to 66/76/86, December 10th.
5K12 decodes to 65/75/85 October 12th.

one of my heads was so dirty/rusty that I couldn't see the #'s. A little cleaning/scraping and I found it. These #'s are cast into the head and aren't the best to start with.
