Odd question

I recently installed a fuel pressure gauge off the T of my pressure regulator. I like having the gauge under the hood for easy viewing during tuning and troubleshooting. Now I am working on timing and vacuum, and have seen vacuum gauges that are temporary and others that look like they mount permanently similar to my fuel pressure gauge. Is there somewhere on the intake manifold of my 390 that I could just thread in the vacuum gauge and leave it? Has anyone done this? Bad idea?

Screw it into whichever intake runner has a port. You can leave it there or not.

Depends on what type of vacuum your looking for 1 / a ventury vacuum from the carburetor (anything above the base plate) or 2 / a manifold vacuum ( anything below the base plate) either will give a reading but I'm going to say that the ventury will give you a more precise reading for fuel tuning and the manifold vacuum for ignition ( distribute dewell, coil ect.) and yes they can be used from anywhere on the vehicle with enough vacuum hose/ I'm thinking that all automotive, at lest on the older model vacuum gauges are mechanical but I might be wrong ??/ The actually had ( and I would like to have one for my truck) A motor miser economy gauge that gives you a limited idea on miles per gal VS acceleration rate to miles per hour and it was mounted in the cab compartment as a visual instrument??/

I'm wanting to see vacuum for making carb adjustments, but also to see how it responds under different conditions. There's a link somewhere around here about how to properly use a vacuum gauge, explaining what it should do and what problems it can indicate. My engine is running pretty good but I want to tune it by vacuum and timing to see what's possible. I had problems with it recently and it still feels slightly off in responsiveness and power.

Vacuum spec's are going to depend on cfm of your carb, cu in displacement, And it goes on and on but generally you can get by with year make and model, Auto zone has a tech page that might reflect that or if you got a parts store with nologable parts guy he can probably steer you in the right direction ??/or look on this sight under vacuum and throttle responds or anything in correlation to that??/

How to Use and Interpret a Vacuum Gauge

That link is basically what I am going to do, along with cleaning/fixing my balancer so the timing marks are evident. She's running good, but if I can get the timing and carb set better.....

I'm learning along the way, always a new challenge. That's why I like old rigs.
