So I get in my truck turn the key and "Wait to start" then crank it and a loud SCREEAAACHHHHH "nosie" ... Then turn the key back "thinking WTF" and Cranked it up again and it started right up..... HMMM WEIRD... whats thats sound like guys... Starter..?
ok thanks guys. yea I was guessing the starter, the sound was freaky lol but it cranked up ok so im hoping its nothing major and if it happens again "im guessing it will" should i replace it?
Replaced my starter 2 days ago and the truck started up nice, until this morning that "screeching" noise happened again. Turn the key and it ""screeched" ... Hope it's just a crap starter I bought, it's brand new but maybe it was bad.. I have a warranty on it and I'm goin to get a new one put on, any other thing it could be??
I'd check the belt tensioner. Use a breaker bar to release the tension (which should be substantial) and slip off the belt. Check the pullys for wobble and smooth spinning, and inspect the belt.
dont let that starter ruin your ring gear for manual trans or flex plate auto trans. that could create a lot of extra work & money.
Lots of people telling me it may be the teeth on my flex plate in a one spot maybe be chopped or broken, or maybe cracked... I'm getting it looked at tomorrow to see if the teeth are ok on it...
