Last week our F250 suddenly stopped running. We had it pulled to the house, about 2 miles, and found it was the AC Compressor Clutch (took belt off and it started fine) Today we replaced the AC Compressor and now it wont shift into drive. Reverse is fine, fluid is fine and there is no warning lights on. Anyone have any ideas?
Sorry, I guess that would help Mark. It is a 1999 F 250 Super Duty, 4 wheel drive. We are almost thinking it may be the range sensor. Today husband and brother messed with it and now in reverse it just stops, you can give it gas and when you let off it stops like it has the brakes on but it jerks like it is trying to go backward and foreword. But you can put it in Neutral and it will ease forward. Does that help any?
Thanks Mark. So my non mechanical mind makes me think we are finally on to something, with your help of course. When it originally broke down they had to pull it backward about 1/8 mile to turn it around and then pulled it home, about 2 miles. Would that have anything to do with it, ya think?

Mark will correct me if I am wrong but pulling it that far is not good because the engine isn't running so no fluid is being moved to lubricate the spinning parts. I would say its rebuild time..
Naah, I wasn't going to say Rebuild. I was going to say Replace it.
Either way once the forward clutch sticks on it means the trans has to come out and get opened up to fix it. Once it's open there will be damage apparent, and there would be no reason to put the trans back in the way it is.
5.4 gas. 175k. had friend service. now wont shift past 2dn. little stiff shifting into 2nd. am told that metal shavings that were recently dislodged due to service may be blocking valve(s). not sure of terminology.
can it be fixed without rebuild or replace? how?
worked fine b4 changing lines, dropping pan, draining and replacing tranny fluid.
had similar problem on 02 diesel. mechanic replace a black plastic module on the extertior driver's side (park/drive/reverse module/) and is shifing okay now. might look into that.
