A little help if you would. I have a 302 and an AOD tranny in my 54 ford pick up and it appears to be leaking thru the front drive line yoke onto the front U-Joint and on the ground. Its been leaking since I got it but it seems to leak a lot more when it sits for a about a week. There's no fluid on the tail shaft or around the rear seal. Is there a inner yoke seal or a tail shaft seal that could be missing? Could there be to much downward angle on the transmission? Could my tranny be leaning down to far in back which would account for the slow leak?
Another weak point in these transmissions (especially those that have been custom fit in another vehicle) is the yoke bushing. There is a bushing inside the tail housing that mates with the driveshaft yoke. If this bushing is bad then the yoke will wobble and cause leakage and early failure of the rear seal. Most times this is caused by a driveshaft that has been built that does not let the yoke slip far enough into the tailshaft. I have also seen yokes that were not long enough to seat properly.
OK, I checked the plug on the yoke and that is definitely where the fluid is coming from. I went ahead and pulled my running boards and was able to crawl underneath and I have a lot more problems other than the yoke. she's leaking at the rear engine seal or pan [not sure which ], the front trans seal , the yoke and the rear third member seal. So I guess I'll be down for a while till I can get her fixed right. thanks for your help guy's.
