electrical issue

I have a 1987 f150, 2wd and have a major issue, the starter will not disengage even after turning the key off. I did find a bad alternator and battery and have replaced them, I just bought this truck for the kid, the engine ran great and had no problems when I drove it home, but since then it has been a night mare. The ignition switch has been replaced, solenoid also, has new cables. Maybe grounds? was grounded to block and frame. any ideas? thanks for your help

You also need a ground to the body.
Pull the small push on wire off the starter relay on the fender.
If it still cranks with the battery hooked up replace the starter relay again. This time buy one from Ford and not a auto part store.

I used some primary wire to the body and put a Ford solenoid in the truck. When I hooked up the negative cable some sparks shot out so I pulled the cable off. The truck has a new ignition switch, new battery, new alternator, cables, I am starting to think something in the steering column is shorting out or something in the harness. It is a manual tranny, 302 v-8 2wd and a basic truck. can't seem to think of what else it could be. Tomorrow I am going to re do the ground cables from battery to frame then to block and go from there if not hopefully I can find a shop that has the time. being that I work 2 jobs.

Did you pull the small push on wire off the starter relay on the fender?
If no spark or cranking then the problem is in the truck wiring.

Unplug the Ignition switch and see if the small push on at the starter relay on the fender is still hot (has power on it to ground). If it is not then the Ignition switch is bad or not installed right.

I performed all the tests and it appears I have a bad harness, so I am on the fence on what to do with this truck either spend $$$$$ on a 27 yr old truck on electrical issues that may ot not be corrected or cut bait and find something else. thanks for your help
