Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but ill give it a shot. A friend of mine is asking me if its possible to turn a 2 valve engine into a 4 valve engine? not sure if this is possible but if it is any advice would be very appreciated
Sure, you just need a set of 4 valve heads and all the other stuff that differs between the 2v and 4v. The easiest Ford example would be the modular motors, available in 2 or 3 valve SOHC or 4 valve DOHC. There are cam drive differences obviously, and probably some other differences but you should be able to change a 2 valve to a 4 valve. It might not be cost effective, but it seems possible.
Now if you are talking about a 2 valve pushrod motor, or any engine that was never factory offered as 4 valve, then you are on your own and must cast and machine your own heads. Good luck with that.
Also, you reference piston swaps? Pistons would have nothing to do with a head/valve set up change, other than making sure the clear the valves if tolerences are that tight.
Yes, it is possible. There were 3 and 4 valve heads available for the small block at various points in time. As far as I know Dominion's were the last 4 valve heads for them. Ford built 4 valve heads for the Indy motors of the 60's. There were Gurney-Eagle 3 valve heads made in the 60's for them.
