I have a 68 f100 i recently have been replacing the spider gear in a 9 inch 10 bolt 3rd member my old gears were all gone and when replacing the new ones had no movement is this normal or did I do something wrong Im new to doing any rearend work and have nothing to go off of please help dont want to ruin my new gears thanks
2. You need to check backlash and adjust to the correct specification. Meaning; the correct amount of meshing of the gear teeth between the ring gear and the pinion gear.

Unless he just replaced broken spider and side gears.......
All I have done was replace the spider and side gears they have no play is that normal haven't set my backlash yet I do know there are tools I need for that, just didn't have anything to base what the side and spider gears were supposed to be set wether play was needed or if they need to be in one position my original gears had all but 3 teeth broke
