built ford tough

Well I've got 330 miles on my new 2013 F550 I'm getting ready to take a 2200 mile trip. So I'm giving the truck a quick once over I pop the hood and to my amazement the inter hood has started separating from the outer shell has anyone ever looked to see if theirs is doing this I would think its going to vibrate now.

no pics

I don't have any pics but its the internal steel reinforced panel that's glued to the bottom of the top hood panel that you can see.

Great, more complaining...

Do you have anything useful to add to this forum?

I'm sure the dealer would address your complaints but instead you choose to make multiple threads with disparaging titles in order to attract attention.

Please, lets not attack people on here.

Back to the op, I know what you are talking about, I just bought a 2013 and there is a substance between the two pieces.

I would bring it to the dealers attention so they can order a new hood. I will then be there upon your return.

I don't think you will notice too much if any vibrations from it though. Just get it made right upon your return.

Pictures with a date stamp will also help that you reported the defect asap.

Are you guys sure there isn't some sort of expanding material/insulation of some sort hiding in there that gives the perception it's separated?

I have the hood liner inside mine so I can't confirm...

Here is a pic of what he is taking about. You can see some separating of the panels...but it is still connected throughout the hood. Just those center areas have this so there isn't vibration.

I am not so sure it is an issue but if there was a lot of it then maybe.

Hi Josh Monday,

As others have suggested, I recommend making an appointment at your dealership so they can get this addressed. Additionally, I want to get this moved up to the customer service manager (CSM) for your region. Send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name so I can get started.

Thanks!

Crystal

What your seeing is the panel bonding compound [such a Sikka Flex] used to clue the 2 pieces together...it appears to not have cured properly and the components have seperated.

Not a big deal really...just stop in at your dealer, as suggested and they will probably replace the hood.

I wouldn't want my hood replaced on a brand new truck, paint just won't be the same. My dad's '11 did the same thing. Seems common on them. No noticeable vibrations from the hood.

Agreed that sometimes the color match can be an issue but in todays age of computer controlled painting etc the likely hood of such differences are smaller.

Would i want an in-house prepped/painted hood...no...factory fresh and completely finished yes.
