Just for fun I took some pics of my panel with the hood bird on it. They are in my gallery.
They're not the best pics, but they will give you hopefully a little better idea of how it looks on there. I took them quickly, and didn't have the best of angles available to me, but what the heck.
I didn't actually mount it to my hood, but I discovered that it sits still nicely all by itself for the pics. I don't think I'm going to mount it permanently, since there's so much already going on out front, with the visor, hood emblem, etc.
It's one of the new stainless steel birds. What a nice hunk of metal!
Paul
PS: If you really look closely, you'll note that the bird has "flown" forward about 1/2 inch in a few of the pics....that's about the limit of location movement allowed and still keeping the bottom curve on the bird tight to the hood.
Paul, Thanks for posting the photos. They look great! I dont know how Ford came up with the design for the truck hood ornament. I dont think they were trying to match any feature on the truck. If you like a lot of chrome these look great sitting out front. By the way, Im the guy that is reproducing the birds. You cant go wrong with solid stainless steel. For more info search "those rare hood ornaments" here in this forum for the whole story on this project. Danny
That's a nice looking panel you've got there and I like the hood ornament on your truck. I think I posted the measurements for the location of the hood ornament in the thread that Danny referred to. If not, I can dig them out if you need them. They were taken from a '54 that had one on it when I got it.
Danny,
Are you also making the reinforcement plate that goes on the underside of the hood that acts like a one piece washer for both mounting bolts? I've had two of the original hood ornaments and both have had this piece installed. I still have one for my remaining ornament. I'll have to look to see if it has a part number on it.
Good Luck,

fatfords, I have not offered any mounting hardware for the birds yet but I am interested in doing so. Is there any way you would send your reinforcement plate so I can copy it? Ill make you an extra at no cost if you can use one. Danny
