i believe my 90 f150 4x4 has 3:55 rearend gears. next year im putting 3/4 AXLES FRONT AND REAR (matching pair). i dont want to destroy rearend but would like to tighten up diff. is there any way to make it lock up (with out lockers) a little better
Does that axle have a factory limited slip in it? If so the answer is yes you just restack the clutches and shim them tighter, if however it's an open diff then a lunchbox locker like the Powertrax LockRight is a cheap option that simply replaces the factory spider gears and can be installed with the axle in the truck in about an hour.
with what i know about diffs. u could fill a thimble. i know the theory of operation and all but to look at one and know what i was looking at i am lost. how do i tell the difference between the two with the cover removed. then ill know which options i have
On the 10.25 axle you have to look real close to tell if it's a limited slip, if so there will be a stack of clutch plates on either side of the pinion gears...
