Just bought a 2005 F-350 DRW a short time ago. Took a trip to deliver some stuff. I am currently about 2000 miles from home base and find myself with a flat tire. Is it safe to drive UNLOADED, 2000 miles with a flat? And will the flat tire be ok?
The flat will probably get destroyed, and may take out the tire next to it, too. You can take the flat off and throw it in the bed. You can run with one tire on the dually unloaded with no problem.
Thanks Mark. I was wondering if I could drive with one wheel on the dually. I'll do just that. Got new tires waiting for me at home base. Just gotta get back.
Make sure you can bottom out the lug on the one wheel and really tighten it, not just run out of threads in the lug or on the stud. I would run on the outside wheel.

This might be a silly comment but it's not intended to sound that way...
These trucks come with full size spare tires. The pickup models have a holding fixture under the bed behind the axle. Are you missing yours?
(Chassis Cab trucks ship with a spare but it's not bolted to anything so it sometimes doesn't make it to the end user....)
For a 2000 mile trip I would get another tire. That is not exactly on the other side of the county. Truck comes with a spare but I would not be surprised if it was removed by the PO or the dealer you probably bought it from. The car dealers always blame the PO for not having owners manual, spare tire key, spare tire, jack and etc but I will be they are pulling them out of the vehicle and selling them to boost revenue.
Thanks guys. I posted earlier today and got Mark's answer pretty quick. So I went ahead and took off two of the rear wheels. MC5C, The lugs tightened nicely. I'm running on four wheels now. S&B, my truck is a flat bed. It's equipped with a 40 gallon gasoline tank behind the axle. At first glance there's no room for a spare. But I had already planned to try my best to FIND some room. The best tire is on the bed now. I'll use it as the spare when I get back to home base. S&B, I might have to get a holding fixture from the junk yard. dkf, I can't justify buying a tire when I have four new ones waiting at home base. RPM, $15 is too much to repair a tire I'm going to throw away when I get back. A guy told me that running a dually without the second tire might cause a problem, but it seems to be ok. I'll post when I'm safe and sound back home.

Gotcha.
If you have a 40 gallon tank aft of the axle then your truck is a chassis cab. There is no place to carry a spare tire under the bed on those models. Your best bet for future trips is to find a place on the deck to carry your spare. Sounds like you are fine with what you did in order to get home. Have a safe trip.
Did I just read correctly that $15 is too much to spend on a tire?!?!?! Dude the time you wasted taking off tires and posting this question should be worth more than $15.

Dude, I didn't waste any time. I was waiting for a small doggie carrier that was going to Los Angeles. That's how I noticed the flat in the first place. I didn't have anything to do so I started inspecting my own truck.
You should learn to use your time productively. Ha,ha!
