So I'm moving home to michigan from.colorado and I'm taking my dent with me she's a 78 f150ranger xlt 2x4 i was just wondering what i.can do to save her frrom the salty salty rusty haven that is a michigan winter. I'm looking to coat the whole underside and sides up to the lower trim level. any trickz or awesome products? She's already got a little cancer in the.rear wells ill be.taking.care of before i leave any.helps greatly appreaciated.
Dents have an inherent design flaw with their rear wheel wells which leads to the dreaded wheel arch rust. That welded inner panel has really small drain holes that get plugged very easily and mud/dirt cannot be readily washed out.
I'd omit it altogether (like the Bumpsides which never had them).
Ahh makes sense dirt it gets in everywhere. so what would be the best option in your opinion when i redo the arches? Lmc sells the repop panels but its not that bad to justify that and i can imagine they share the same issues as stock. i was considering cuttiing and welding in the best i could abd getting some fender flares or something. Thanks for the info

Repalce the wheel arches, leave off the inner wheel liner, install fender braces to provide structure, and then fab up some different inner liners. The goal is to end up with is nothing that will trap, pack, and hold dirt/mud like that stupid panel does.
So just smooth her out i got ya. Yeah but if it works it'd be worth the cost i could get some liner and do it myself shoot dustyroads. got the idea maybe a powerwasher is more affordable then coating haha ill just spray her off after every drive. I'm hoping to find a cheap winter beater when i get there so i can just store her but want and have is few far anddd.inbetween haha
If you wanna cut out the rusted out rear wheel arch's, the best option for replacement is to cut & weld in a front fender wheel arch. Cheaper and better than the aftermarket crap. Cut it just below the dent (middle trim section), everything is the same on a front fender as the back wheel arch!! Just me .02
Since I live in the midwest also, I just don't drive my trucks & bronco's in the winter months, but if you do need to use it as a DD then get everything undercoated. And like the op said, wash it weekly!!
