I have a 1956 f100 I blew the original motor, but I found a original 56 272 motor that was said to be sitting for about 20 years and I am restoring it but I can't seem to turn it Over. Today I went to turn it over after a day and ahalf of me putting marvel mystery oil around the cylinder heads, I opened the spark plug holes and shot some mystery oil in there. Then I tried to turn it over with a breaker bar but the bolt striped with only a small amount of pressure like 10 lbs. I do Not want to tap it out yet until I know that it turns over, there is a type of bar that I believe holds onto the harmonic balancer, but I cannot find it please help
This might sound funny but my old granddad has refurbish a lot of old tractors and when they where stuck he actually pored some olod fashioned Coca cola in there and let it sit for a few days, it worked every time.
Afterwards you have to turn it over and let it spit it out thru the sparkpluggs and then put some lubricant in there.
what do you mean stripped? Or do you mean you rounded the bolt head. I doubt you stripped that big gr. 8 bolt. Next thing pop the valve covers and
tap each rocker with hammer, to check for stuck valves dont take much, one stuck valve &
you aint turning it. Next good thing to do with any snake oil is to boil it over
charcoal or hot plate/ wood fire. I'd go with acetone & ATF 50/50 cause its
cheaper. Boil it till its bubbling like making french fries. pour in there and walk
away. I picture just a engine no tranny. so tweek on the ring gear and a
bolt- dont try to turn it, try to rock it. Again all this is just a "pre examination"
that usually leads to pullin the heads and beating on pistons with a 2x4. These
things tighten up even in dry sheds. the enviorment, temp. swings that does it.
Those temp swings when you go to your car in garage and its soakin drippin
wet. That kind of situation is real bad here in the S.East. better to leave garage
doors open here.
Watch out for it to drop a couple of push rods when it starts . My 56 did that after sitting around for about 5 or 6 years . Start it and it would miss, replace the push rod , same thing . It was dropping 2 on on side and 1 on the other side . After replacing them about three times with some extras i had i pulled the head and took it to get rebuilt. They said the guides were just gummed up from not being run. Now it runs real good , i don't use it but i do start it about 4 times a year for about one hour and get everything in the engine up to a normal temp.
Oh , and each time it dropped a push rod it would bend it so don't just put it back in place if it happens with out checking it out.

Good luck
__Ha ha, yeah that Coca Cola does the same thing inside the human body too , never touch the stuff .__
ATF and Acetone mixed 50/50. With or with out heat works well for an all around penetrating oil. Use lots and let it soak. Sometimes it may take a week of wetting her down a couple times a day before ya can get her to rock back and forth a bit.
