2006 Ford Expy with 39,000 miles.
Filled up with 87 at a Delta station, about 6 miles later, Check engine came on for first time ever. Code 182. Can't find out what that means, so I can fix it.
The generic DTC for "P0182":
Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit Low Input
Causes seem to include dirty MAF and/or cheap/bad gas
Thank you for the advice.
Update: I am taking easiest route first.
Delta is a popular brand here, and we have used it for years without problems. I was in an area I do not usually travel, saw Delta station on a major 4 lane road with gas 11 cents/gal less than one in my area. Had line with lots of traffic.
Since chk eng lite came on shortly after getting gas, I am hoping the problem is sub par gas from that station. Truck runs good - actually getting about 2 mpg more than usual.
I did battery terminal maintenance, and while cables were off, unplugged the MAF and fuel pressure sensor, cleaned the contacts and coated with thin layer of dielectric grease, just in case there was less than optimal connection.
Disconnecting battery resets computer. If code comes back, then I will burn tank down and fill with a different brand.
Well, it came back. Truck runs good, gas mileage continues about 2 mpg better than before! I like that.
Does anything get damaged if I do not replace sensor?
After reading on the web that other sensors can cause code 182, I decided it could not hurt to clean all the connectors.
I unplugged sensor connectors, and 3 connectors at the computer, and cleaned the pins and sockets with q-tips lightly coated with dielectric grease, and lightly coated the orange sealing rings. I had previously cleaned fuel p sensor and MAF.
I did not clean the TPS because the connector would not separate using reasonable force, and I did not want to break anything.
All the pins are gold plated. I did not see any corrosion except for the left bank knock sensor, which is a regular spade. It had some oxidation, which I cleaned off.
After driving a while, I noticed it was a bit peppier, like it used to be, and the fuel mileage dropped back to what it used to be.
I have driven about 300 miles with no codes, and the truck running exactly like it used to. I did not spend a dime on parts - just time cleaning.
