302 mpg problems

I still say save yourself a lot of time and hassle and go back to stock intake and proper 2bbl carb or try a much smaller 4bbl carb. You say the mpg and power was worse with the stock 2bbl, was it good or was it screwed up in some way? That 8.0-1 comp motor stock has between 120-140 hp at around 3600 rpm, headers I guess might make a 5-10 hp/5-15 ft lb tq difference somewhere in the rpm range, but not a lot to really make much of a difference. As blue and white said obvious places to start are spark plug condition. carb tunin/timin are a given to get this truck where it should be mpg wise. Does the truck belch out black smoke or is the exhaust sooty? I'd really like to see you get this truck gettin the gas mileage it should, because I think there's a lot left on the table. gas is way too expensive to waste much for very long
