Dropped Distributor.... Dang

Pulled apart the top of the 460 I have been working with in the 67 and when I finally was able to free up the distributor from the block, I dropped it on it's side and put the top round area out of round with a small dent. Can this be tapped back or does it have to be perfectly round to keep moisture out? Did not land on the shaft. Not all sure what was done but if it does need to be replaced, what is a good stock replacement for points type? I was just going to look at a Carden rebuild since nothing will fit the Pertronix that I have just bought for it. (hate the HEI so that's not an option). Trying to keep it somewhat nostalgic looking under the hood but reliable.

I've never tried but I think I would figure out a slow and even pressure method like pressing it back out. Like a rounded tipped tool and a vise.
BUT BETTER THAN TRYING THAT I bought a new one about a year ago for my 460. I can't remember the brand but it is brand new and made out of billet aluminum. So complete it even came with 1977 and newer 2 piece cap and rotor plus the standard points style cap and rotor. My truck really not on the road yet so I couldn't test drive. But it may have too much timing advance in it.

If you can't fix it and want to keep as close to original as you can then i would get a rebuilt one . They are not expensive but you would have to pay the core charge . Check with NAPA or Autozone for a couple of suggestions, there are others. If you don't want original and still want points then" Mallory " has single and duel points along with electronic ones .Anything other than a rebuilt one is going to be a few bucks . I have used all of the ones above and the "Mallory Unilite" was the most trouble free. I would have liked it better if i had got the one with a vacuum advance.
Lot's of choices out there to pick from.

Good point about the originality but the one I described only cost me About $90.00. I bought it from a wholesale division of Oreilly auto parts though.

Well, been looking around at different distributors and trying to see if the Mallory or Full Pertronix II would be worth the cost over the Cardone rebuilt. I already have the Pertronix Ignitor I but not sure if getting the remanned would yield any issues or going with the Mallory or Billet Pertronix would be worth the cost. I do want to get away from the points but keep it simple so looking at that simple type of setup.

At least yours came out in one piece, I destroyed mine getting it out. I went to Advance Auto and bought a rebuilt one for, I think, about $35. I installed my Pertronix igniter and was back on the road. I had the Pertronix for several years and no timing issues I didn't turn or remove my distributor and it stuck big time.
