Very interesting, sure looks like that puppy has been running hot for a while. Any idea what portion of the speed-o circuit its in????
Good idea to try running the vehicle without the instrument cluster, to confirm diagnosis.
You should be able to get a replacement part at Radio Shack, or any other electronics supply store, or local electronics repair shop, or even a Ham radio club member.
Well I seriously thought about changing just the capacitor, but I can't get any good clean numbers off of it. I guess it got too hot to get a good read. Someone here on FTE I bet has a speedo laying around that could get some good numbers. I bought a speedo from ebay that has a tach in it and is only 3000 miles difference from what mine is. As far as what circuit it controls/goes with I'm not sure of. I do know that the mph needle motor has a real strong burnt smell coming from the tiny hole in the back of it. It be that the capacitor goes to that motor, it is close to it. I'm not an electronics guru though.
Yeah I agree. Only reason I'd did it was to see if that really was the problem. For all I know there may have been something else that was the problem and shorted the capacitor. I really wanted a tach also so this was a good reason to get one for it. I could have done without all the headache and aggravation that it took just to get to where I'm at with it now.
