Electrical Issues
Started having intermit problems at 100K.
IDM Module failed replaced, torque converter started rattling replaced, then horn started going off removed fuse for horn.
Now intermit ABS issues where left or right front caliper mainly the left does not want to release unless you turn off the key switch?
Also, parking lights and dash light fuse #8 keeps blowing?
Any ideas? Thanks
But this is most likely the issue, Some where in all your wire harnesses, there is a short that is most likely slowly rubbing through your harness.
It will most likely be in an area that a harness that runs through a grometed hole in the firewall.
A few times, a harness tie broke and this let the harness move from its secure location to a spot where it was being rubbed by other mechanical things ment to move through the engine bay like a steering wheel shaft.
So the bottom line is you need to search for some rubbed raw harnesses somewhere. I cant say for sure but I would bet money this is your problem.
Remember these rules, Something electrical not working... you have an open.
something blowing fuses, short to ground.
something working when not asked, short to hot.
Hope this helps, Mark
Look for signs of water and/or corrosion. There was a problem with some early model SD's where the windshield wasn't sealed properly and rain water got down into the fuse panel and GEM module.
Over the past week I have disconnected all the running lights, trailer receptical, dash cluster and removed the radio to acces the GEM module / relays and unplug them.
After talking to a FORD ASSET trainer he said to check the wiring harness that runs on top of the tilt steering. Sure enough it was penetrated by metal part of the rubber seal for the shifter!
I pulled down the steering covers and repaired the wiring. All back to normal for now.
The Ford Instructor said I may have issues down the road with the GEM module or PK relay but for now all is working!
