That is becoming an increasing problem. I just spent the last half hour trying to locate one.
All of my sources are showing either discontinued, NLA or "call for availability"
LMC does not make anything on their own. They have to be getting the evaporators from someone but I don't have a clue as to who their supplier is. One possibility is they bought an existing supply and when its exhausted they won't have any more.
I bought my new core several years ago from a company in Houston, TX for, as I recall, around $165.00 and for the life of me I can't remember the name.
The Ford part number is D5TZ-19860-A Motorcraft number is YK-54
I did locate a couple of NOS units still available. One source I'm confident has it, the other...not so much.
The "questionable" source:
Collectors Auto Supply, Oroville, WA shows 22 in stock. However, whenever they show a part in stock, the quan is always 22 whether they have 1, 22 or none in stock (800) 414-4462
The other one is:
Bayer Ford-Mercury, Comanche, TX shows 1 in stock (325) 356-2777.
You might try contacting a local A/C repair shop and see if they can source a new evaporator. I wouldn't go by what the chain parts stores say. I think you'll have better luck with someone who does A/C repair exclusively.
If there isn't a source, they should be able to clean and check yours.
Just so you know, the last dealer cost on the OEM unit $271.85, list $543.70
A couple years ago i found one on ebay new made by ac delco for about 175. I ended up going with a junkyard one for $8 though. Lol i flushed it all out checked it for leaks with air and a cooler full of water and cleaned it up. Works just fine
