i have an 81 f-100 im going to have to replace the spindle on it or my other thought was to swap in f-150 suspension.and what kind of problems can i expect to encounter
Could you elaborate? Is the spindle bad? Or are you replacing both left & right to change to the larger bolt pattern?
Most 100's have the smaller car bolt pattern, while F150's have the larger pattern. So if you change up front you need to change the rear so you can have one spare that fits both ends. Up front you change the spindles, but in the back you change the axle shafts themselves.
a year ago i replaced both front rotors and the inner and outer berrings, and dust covers got them all new the drivers side berring race welded itself to the spindle so i ground it off and i scored it bad and put the new ones on any way today i put new pads on and realized i backed the spindle nut off to much i wiped them out again.the f150s are much easier to get a hold ofthan the f100 . the rear suspension is pretty much a no brainer but im not sure about the front suspension, and yes i would like to go to the larger bolot pattern
You can unbolt the F150 suspension and bolt it under your F100, complete. Or, pull the spindles, inc ball joints, and just swap the spindles. But, if I had them out I would also replace the ball joints.
Gary..Here's a project for you in your "spare Time !". Looks like the hot rod boys are using the front bolt on suspension from late Crown Vics. Seems like a viable swap. Your thoughts ?????

Jerry - At first I thought talking about that here would be hijacking the thread. But then I realized that Bert might be interested.
I hadn't heard about that until last week when a new FTE'er in the area said he's doing the swap onto his 77. I haven't talked with him about how hard it is, but I would think it would take considerable fabrication. The upside would be rack & pinion steering, and the downside would probably be reduced GVWR.
Gary..The "Fast and Loud " guys on TV did it on an old Dodge pickup..It bolts on. All they had to make was a spacer to level the top frame rail...??..pretty slick, actually...
