2003 5.4 timing chains installation
I have a 07 expedition that broke a timing chain. I tore it all down the last few days, today putting it back together ran into a problem with the timing marks being off.
The cam phasers (not changed) are not in the position that I have read they should be in. The driver side looks good about 12 o'clock but the passanger side (broken chain side) is at about 10-1030.
I put the chain on the drivers side and all the timing links lined up. on the passenger side the double link is at about 1130. So the timing links are not lined up on the cam.I have the crank key at 12 o'clock which has the dimple at 7 o'clock.
The car did run for a little bit before I discovered the broken chain, did that affect my passenger cam? Looking at the lobs on the cam they appear to be in the correct position.
Thanks for any help given.
I can't guarantee that any information here is accurate for the 2007, but go back to page 1 of this thread and read the PDF I posted in the 3rd message. It covers the timing chain.
I read that pdf, my expedition has a different cam than that. I don't know if it is ok that the timing marks are so far off on mine.
If its zero interference shouldn't the cams return to where they should be once the timing chain broke?
