I know there are a bunch of threads already about timing, and I have read through about everyone of them but I'm still having issues. I had a customer bring in an 04 f150 with the 5.4 and we determined it was timing issues. I researched the issue bc I have not worked on the 5.4 much. Well we ended up buying a whole new kit and replaced everything and timed it (which seemed very simple and straight forward) but we still have issues. It seems like it is only a tooth off. It runs but is a little rough and still telling us bank one retarded and bank two advanced. Through my research I have come across conflicting info on these engines. My question is on the chain marks I have been putting the two colored links centers on the cam sprockets and the single link on the crank sprocket. Do I need to reverse those marks or is there something else here I am missing. Thanks in advance and any help is welcome

Looks to me like you're doing it correctly. But you can verify the chain marks are correct by letting the chains hang. The timing marks should be opposite each other.
Here is the full replacement procedure if you need it.

is there any other issues we may be missing. We've replaced almost everything. All three positioning sensors, one vvt solenoid bc the screen was broken. The other tested fine so we didn't replace. All timing components are new. We've attempted to time it four times now and it keeps tripping same codes.
Ok after some other advice we got we get the timing done and it ran perfect for about 15 mins. Now it's telling us bank two is running retarded. What could be causing this. Could the bank two phaser be bad, or could it just maybe be one tooth off. Read a thread somewhere else that someone was having similar issues and all he did was turned his sprocket one tooth and it ran fine.

Quick update. We continued to have issues with the ford after we thought we had got it. It would drive good for a day and then start acting up again. Same code kept coming up. P0022. We continued to try different things but every time same result. As I continued to research the issue, I just happen to come across a thread where somebody mentioned that the starter having issues is known to cause the cps to throw codes. So we raised it up and had a look. The ground that bolts into the bell housing by the starter was strip out and just bouncing around in there. After a quick fix, we ran the truck and the slight hesitation in the throttle and the slight vibration from the cams was gone. Now it just left the shop so don't know for sure if it fixed the problem but just giving y'all a heads up to check ur starter out if u may be having issues still.

Alright finally this will be my last update on this thread. Like I said before, we fixed the ground by the starter and just talked to the customer and he said that it's still running like a dream. So if u have replaced everything and retimed and still have the 0022 code coming up then check ur starter out. If anyone needs any help figuring theirs out u can email me at larrysautomotive17@gmail.com.
