Timing chain guides?

Timing chain guides?

Hey fellas,
I have a 2002 F-150 with an excellent running 5.4 liter. Currently, I have 155,000 miles on it. I have taken very good care of this truck, and other than morning piston slap, all is well. I had a 1999 Crown Victoria with a 4.6 liter. I had to replace the timing chain guides and tensioners at 141,000 miles. One of the guides was eaten completely through, and one of the tensioners was being eaten too. Do the 5.4 liters have the same issue? I hear no noises, and the vehicle runs excellent.

Ive got 375k the clock. Ive had to replace the guides and tensioners twice on the 5.4. The second time, the chain actually wore a hole through the timing cover.

Yes, there are the same long timing chains and guides on the 5.4 than can wear out (or break).
Some have over 200,000 miles on the stock ones, others half that.

Had to replace stock guides at 204,000. Chains wore through them causing unique rattle. Since it was apart, I replaced chains, sprockets, oil pump, water pump, sensors, etc.
