Cool 24yr Old Recall... Will be fixed... NOT under recall. LOL However it gets done idc.

The Dual Tank Selector Valve issue also applies to the F350 of same year. So if you experienced this please comment, Thanks!!

If you own an 1989 Econoline (Build may be 88) and have or have not had recall work done on the "Dual tank fuel selector valve" (350,000 VANS) or "PARK rolls freely on gear selector(110,000 VANS)...PLEASE let me know!!

AFTER A QUICK READ TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK I SHOULD DO TO HANDLE THIS??

I called Ford to inquire about if my van I bought had ever been serviced for the only 2 recalls issued for the 1989 Ford Econolines..
Not only had it NOT been.. They said MY vin had NO recalls associated with it.

After speaking with 2 customer service agents and 3 supervisors they say my van is not subject to the following recalls. But first the facts:

1. A couple months ago I buy this van used from orig owner w/ 100k mi on it. Owner states no recall notifications ever arrived.

2. He says after 3 years of ownership the van stopped engaging in PARK and a chalk and e-brake had to be used. Local dealer made 2 attempts and could not find problem.

3. I was driving along and experienced a loss of over 25 gallons of fuel all out the auxiliary fuel tank nozzle past the cap. Problem has not cured itself.

4. I am a paraplegic who does not escape from a burning vehicle or out of control vehicle very quickly or easily.

5. THIS VAN IS A 1989 FORD ECONOLINE E350 <---- Most important to remember since after reading the detailed info on the recalls "THEY DONT APPLY TO MY VIN"

I wish you luck on this.
A good caring dealer might offer you service on it but it's along shot.
Reason I say this is even on F150 from 2011 right to the 13s on the dealer lot there is shudder issues upshifting 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 when towing with brand new trucks right off the lot and they won't fix them.
The dealer is not obligated to unless the company provides a repair and reimbursement program.
Think you have an issue?
Think how unhappy owners are that pay $50,000 +/- and end up with an issue like this that won't be fixed.
Again I wish you all the best.

Complain to ODI.

The recall is 23 years old. Your 24 year old van and the recall isn't likely to even be in their database anymore.

IF i had a 25 year old truck with a couple problems and i was overly concerned about it. I would have them fixed NOW... Not try to convince FORD to do it.

Aw, I went back and reread your post and realized what I posted was not valid for what you have. This can be deleted.

Smile Ahhh ha!!

Local dealer said to bring it in after holiday weekend. They said they would be happy to fix it as long as there were no signs of abuse ( there are not ). However, they were adamant about letting me know it has nothing to do with the coincidental recall.

hey.... legal reasons.... i finally get it. Fix mine under recall... gotta fix others.

Good for you.
As I mentioned in first reply, a dealer with some compassion might be the best bet.
It's good for his reputation.
There are some who care.
Good luck.

If you need to have this van fixed then put it in the shop and have it fixed at your expense. The car manufacturers have no liability to repair a vehicle after it's 8 to 10 years old. Also they may be telling you that your van did not get a recall notice because it was NOT manufactured within the dates of the vehicles that were failing. Example if they sent out a recalls to vehicles that were made between 11/87 and 6/88 but your vehicle was made in 10/88 then it wouldn't be included in the recall. On top of all this, manufactures usually only supply parts for a vehicle for 10 years after manufacture, after that it's whatever the dealers have in remaining OLD stock getting from a pick and pull or going aftermarket if available.
It doesn't matter if the the Original owner says he didn't receive a recall at this point in time it's his word against the car company, and trust me, the car company will win. I mean you're talking about a 33 year old vehicle that you think someone else should pay for the repairs on? Here's a link you can read for laws on recalls if you're interested in it https://www.hg.org/legal-articles/ri...-vehicle-38080 But if you think you have a case against Ford, well God bless you and I surely hope you have the resources to fight them for repairs of a 33 year old vehicle.
