Heater circuit problems
I'm having a lot of trouble pinpointing the problem with my 04 Aviator. With my scan tool I am pulling up pretty much every code for the o2 sensors and heater circuit and the heater circuit fuse has blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew again immediately. The fuse number is 38.
I can't figure out what to replace!
Has anyone else out there had this problem? What worked for you? Any ideas on what it could be?
On another note my park assist fault notice is coming on in the dashboard and the sensors will not beep, I know this is a common problem but how do I fix it?
Thanks guys!
Fuse F1.38 provides power to more than just the oxygen sensor heaters, and should be a 15A fuse (make sure it wasn't undersized for some reason).
Per the factory service manual, here are the circuits on this fuse:
"Evap emission canister vent valve,Vapor management valve, IMCC-LSRC module, EGR system module, Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)#11, #21, Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) #12, #22"
You could try disconnecting sensor 1 on each of the banks to see if that causes the short to go away. If so, then you're looking at replacing oxygen sensors which is probably easier than chasing down a wiring issue.
I replaced all 4 oxygen sensors on my 2004 Aviator a few weeks back. The sensor 1 sensors were definitely more difficult than sensor 2, but still not horrible. If you're going to replace all 4 sensors, you may as well replace the fuel filter at the same time. Removing the fuel filter covers makes accessing B1S2 easier.

If any hands have been in there recently, that usually explains it.
In any event, swapping parts is usually a fool's errand, as is replacing all 4 O2 sensors without good cause (and I cannot think of a good cause).
