2001 dies randomly

2001 escape with 165,000 with the V6.

Alittle background,

This has never happened before.A few weeks ago on a real hot day my wife was driving to work. She never use's the AC and decided to use it that day.She turned it on and the car died on the highway. It cranked and cranked but didn't start.By the time I got out there (an hour) I started it and fired right up.It has been fine for a few weeks.Until today...

Today she called me,Car died on the highway.Another real hot day but she didn't use the AC.Again cranked and cranked but no start. She then waited about 15-20 minutes and it fired right up and she continued on.

So basically it comes down too...Real hot days (88* +) and Highway driving it dies. Not all the time,Just randomly. After letting it cool down it seems to start fine again.

I did a search on here and I've come to the conclusion that it could be the IAC.What do you guy's think?

easy to change when mine went it wouldn't start when warm waited 10-20 min.and no issue some time it would start and idle all over the place up to 3000 rpm then die.Mine didn't stall while driving. It also never thru the check engine light either.

My IAC only gave issues at idle by not letting the motor move to let air in. It is an easy replacement and not too expensive but I don't think that would cause it to die while throttle is being applied. Other than that I don't have a suggestion.

Check the fuel pressure as it could be an intermittent problem. Do you have access to a fuel pressure test kit or do you know where the test port is in the engine bay?

It could be the fuel pump going out.

In regards to the IAC, if it is the original, it's due for replacement. Get a genuine Motorcraft part.
Aftermarket units are known to be bad straight out of the box -->> chinese junk?
The replacement Motorcraft IAC for my 02 2.0L was made in Japan.
