i was at the drive through today shut the engine off so i could hear, when i started back up it only revved up to about 500 rpms then quickly then sputtered a little bit then died. it would not start, just cranked and cranked. pushed it to a nearby parking spot and went in to eat. came back out and it started up but it wanted to die at every stop light. i keep it going by feathering the gas. after running for a few minutes it was fine. turned it off and back on and started fine.
any ideas??
now i have noticed in the past but only on cold start ups it idles about 500 rpms for a second or two then quickly revs up to 1200 rpms or so. but as i have never had a problem i havent worried about it.
anyway sry for the long post. btw ive got a 2001 f250 5.4
When was the last time you changed the fuel filters? It sounds like the motor is not getting enough fuel..could be filters, air leak in the fuel system, fuel pump that's acting up etc...
also on a related note. today i drove in a couple miles on my lunch break and when accelerating hard i heard the exhaust sounding a little choppy, i also noticed slight hesitation while it was making this sound. it has never done this before. but it also done it when i left work, but it quit about 2 or 3 miles down the road and was fine the rest of the trip....
first off check fuel pressure.. second. JACK IN THE BOX!!!!!!!!! wish one was around here.. and third.. McDonalds is bad for you.. your truck was telling you what would happen if you ate it.. LOL.. JK.. fuel filter
Hey all you heavy truck guys...i have a well maintained Excursion with 130000 on it and a V-10. After running 75-80 with all the family and gear in the truck for 650 miles i was backing up to turn around... hahaha!! and the Balljoint at the pitman arm sheared off! Ive always greased it and have never REALLY stressed it out in an ''odd load'' situation. Just thought i'd let every body know that runs these trucks and has very precious cargo about what happened on my workcation haha!!
