Intercooler boot failure.

I was towing my horses up a steep grade and started hearing a screeching sound coming from the area around the turbo and I couldn't get any more power out of her to push up the mountain. I pulled over but could t find anything wrong until I got home and took the intercooler boot off and found this:

I'm thinking of using the riff raff boots to replace because they are cheaper than the dieselsite boots. Have y'all had any experience with these?

Welcome to FTE.

I've been running the Riffraff boots for a little while without any issues. I tow heavy through the mountains of NV/UT. Haven't read anything horrible about them, and they look good too.

Dorman makes a replacement boot for the turbo outlet and I want to say it was $35. Works just fine.

I have black RiffRaff boots.

My turbo boot looked like that, it would whistle some at high boost, otherwise I wouldn't have known any better.

Do the RiffRaff boots have the bead inside? I read somewhere that they were smooth inside on both ends. That's why I went with the BD Diesel.

I think mine were smooth, but are about a year old and no popping off.

I can't remember if Riffraff told me or I read it somewhere. The oem boots are 3 ply. The Riffraff are 4 ply.

Added in edit: going through old emails. found one from Clay @ Riffraff stating that their boots are 4 ply.

I also vote for the riffraff boots, they stand up to the boost my 38R puts out quite well.

Way better than stock.

Here is a better description on the BD Diesel boots. http://www.dieselperformance.com/ind...uct/index/178P

Not knocking RiffRaff, just showing another option for those of us on the other coast. The boots are stout and the clamps are much heavier than oem.

Whatever you choose apply aerosol hairspray before putting the boots on, it will help and of course clean really good with carb cleaner or brake cleaner.

Even better would be to do the CCV mod and keep the oil out of the boots.
