My work truck is a 94 f250 5.8 with the E40d.
OK...One day its perfect.
The next day it will be ruinning fine then all the sudden it wont want to
get out of first gear, then i can put it in L2 and get second but thats it.
the next day it will shift but really hard thru the gears, I know the truck
enough to back off the throttle right before it shifts though.
The next day it will work like a champ?????
This has been going on for months and I'm sick of it.
Do I need a solenoid pack?
I'm sorry but these guys at the transmission shop that simply say its burnt
up and to give em 2g's to fix it can kiss my ***!!
I would appreciate any advice!!! I'm really handy and feel like as long as its
not internal gear related stuff I can at least try to fix it.
Thanks Again!!

you should get a cheap code reader and do diagnostic test to see where the problem is
the only thing that i know that can affect shifts would be the tps sensor...
TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is on the throttle body, on the engine.
The hard shifts are because the electronically controlled transmission is in limp mode. There should be a transmission code stored.
I'm thinking you have no speed signal to the EEC, probably a bad VSS or PSOM but we'll need to keep an open mind here before we can pinpoint anything.
Let's start with the basics:
Do you have a flashing O/D OFF light?
Speedometer and/or cruise control acting funny?
Anything else not working?
Check for codes and let us know what you find.
I had pulled the pan off of it thinking I needed to
Replace the solenoids....about to throw it back
On and refill it so I can do the koeo tests....will post
The results soon....thanks so much for the help!!!
The codes are as followed....654 which says not in park
During KOEO self test.....536 brake on/off (BOO) circuit
Not activated during KOER 154 and 10 which don't say anything about those ones

did you inspect and clean your solenoid pack plug yet? your issue being intermittent leads you to think faulty connection.this is the prime suspect (but not limited to.)
if it looks like this:
then you need to cut it off and repair it with an e40d repair harness.if it doesn't look like that, just carefully unclip it and clean it thoroughly with electrical cleaner and apply dialectic grease.it if doesn't resolve your issue, then no harm done with a little maintenance anyway.
Thats about what it looks like plus a ton of dirt and grime....i cant see behind it to get it uncliped though.....heading to get one of those lil mirrors. Im not so sure I can get to it and get it done with it mounted but hate to think about having to drop it to replace a damn plug. Somewhat frustrating

Remove the heat shield, it's very easy to pop the connector once that is out of the way.
