I think this might be my first thread ever.....anyways here goes:
Is there any noise or sounds associated with axle wrap?
There's a bit of a clunking sound and it can happen putting it into gear but also happens at random times when I'm already in gear and at speed (sometimes when i let off the pedal, for example).
My first thought was tranny, but I'm not so sure. Just had the rear pinion seal replaced due to a leak back in mid-June. Could that be related?
Thanks in advance,
Karl
P.s. forgot to mention that it feels like the tranny is starting to slip when I start to accelerate. You know, when you put your foot down and it has a delayed reaction and pops into gear? (But that's NOT when the clunking happens!).

For the wrap itself, no. Associated noise can occur if you have another problem though.
Try the solution you saw in the other thread, regarding the slip joint.

What's your trans fluid level?
Can also be a U-joint.

Edit: Wow, go searching for other threads and two posts slip in front!
Check the splines on the drive shaft...as you put on or let off the gas, the axle wraps ever so much, and those splines can make noise as the drive shaft extends and shortens.
I pulled mine off, added a little waterproof grease, problem disappeared. Easiest fix I've done.
I don't think you have axle wrap issues. You have a 2 wheel drive. They typically do not have this problem because there is not as much leverage on rear axle (shorter spring blocks).

That's not going to change the wrap action much at all. I've seen many cars with no blocks wrap badly, plus he has no anti-wrap leaf.
Thanks everybody for your answers. I think it's time to check the u-joints! In another thread, Miles had similar issues that went away when he greased them up. Someone else agreed and now you all are saying the same thing, so I think that's what I need to do.

UPDATE: Problem Solved! ... this turned out to be the slip joint needing lube. They also replaced the driveshaft boot, so I should be good to go for awhile.
So thanks again to you all who advised me (Brent in particular through some PM's).
