Another Wheel Question
So here is where I am at on this topic from all the pages of reading all over the internet.
1. If your going to do it, go with a decent spacer.
2. Don't do it, especially if you tow.
3. Its wrong and puts to much pressure on the lug nuts.
Then you got the people that say it is fine, so here is where the confusion sets in.
When you add a spacer, you are moving the wheel out. So with the offset on the newer wheels bringing the tires in to much to clear the leaf springs, you add the spacers. This statement here in my mind is that if there in to far and you push them back out, all your doing is lining it up to where the factory wheels would have went, and in turn should not mess up anything.
Spacers are the major factor in this entire confusion. I know there are cheap makers out there that slap them together and things go wrong. But there are some that seem to do it the right way. The stock wheel sits on the hubcentric ring (I think is what its called) which it turn puts the pressure there and the lug nuts are just for holding into place. So with this being said, and a maker I have found that makes the spacers in steel that goes on that ring, and then the spacer also has this ring on it, there shouldn't be any issues.
Next I hear about these are a horrible idea if you tow. This one I can see the point in it, but everyone states if you tow heavy. My question is, what is considered heavy? I tow 6-7k lbs daily so I'm thinking that should not be a problem. Towing heavy to me is anything above 12k lbs.
So here you go guys. I'm feeling like the girl on the internet that states "its on the internet, it must be true" right now. Any insight to this matter would be really helpful, as I am lost.
