Less grief down the road

Hi all,

We are fond of what we drive, and to keep that fondness going is to keep it reliable and enjoyable as we head down the road. Preventable maintenance items are key to this. Some are obvious and some not. The some not ones worry me.

Every manufacturer has certain known issues with parts and design features that can cause grief down the road. Some of the issues are disabling,

some are plain annoying like squeaks, rattles and clunks. Manufacturers won't always tell us this, but we know better.

So, all of you who have dealt with or know of problematic areas that can be passed along to others for the sake of keeping that tow truck further away, or to just keep that smile on our faces as we cruise that long trip. Please tells us what you have experienced, if it is a part to replace, (example ignition module), tells us the brand you used to improve upon. It also could be an upgrade, modification or conversion, please give us some details. I am sure we will all appreciate the info.

I put Spicer ujoints that are servicable, grease them every other oil change. Adjust my rear brakes every other oil change. Swap my icvr to solid state so I don't lose my gauges. I usually stay away from AutoZone and O'Rieleys and do Napa or summit for most parts. Imo going midrange price on parts instead of the cheapest is usually a better deal in the long run.
I change oil 4 months or 4000 miles, swap tranny fluid if it needs it every 50 to 60000 miles. If I tow alot or tow boats I usually change rear diff fluid once a year since water can get sucked into a hot diff.
