I have a 79' F150 4x4 400 auto with the dual shocks up front on each side .I will be replacing my stock exhaust manifolds since i have a leak on one side and the exhaust is aging. Does any one have the Hooker Headers , and if so was there any issues with the shocks ( dual ) getting in the way?
I was looking at http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ho...-150/year/1979
I'm running those headers but I only have single shocks. I can't see why they would interfere with the quad shocks though.
Good headers but the driver side kinda comes tight to the oil pan so your only option is to run both pipes down the passenger side. On my 4x4 it was tight.
If I remember right the starter had to come out and the driver side motor mount had to be unbolted so the engine could be lifted a bit.
Thank you for the picture. What mufflers did you run? And why did you have to raise the motor up? What was in the way? I see.....with the headers inboard the shocks would not be an issue. I saw at a certain website that a certain header would not work with dual shocks. I was not sure about the Hooker Headers.
i just today bought a 79 f150 with a 460 swap in it. it has a set of headers that run outside the frame rails. i think it looks stupid. ill upload pictures if your interested but the guy above me has the right idea......the exhaust is visable in the fenderwells and outside the frame under the cab. id like to find a set that travels inside the framerails.... sorry kindof off topic...
A LOT of people run fenderwell exits on these trucks with 460 swaps because of clearance/heat issues. I agree it looks better inside the frame rails, which is why I ordered mine like that. BUT, I will have issues with heat soak in my starter from it for sure.

Sorry, I was away for a few days. I had to lift the motor and remove the starter to get the passenger side in. Some of the clutch linkage stuff may have had to be moved out of the way. Nothing crazy but be prepared, its not a 30 minute install. In my opinion they are worth the money paid. There are better set out there and much worse sets out there.
I ran 2.5" all the way down the pass side to two Walker QuietFlow mufflers then split them from there.
Never mind, just saw the low corner of your post. So ....yours is a 4 speed and some of the linkage got in the way? I am going to get a few things taken care first....
Front steering /linkage components
Tranny pan leaks
Lack of backup/brake lights
passenger floor pan
And then onto the exhaust and I am really leaning towards Hooker Headers.
Yeah, I dont know. Jury is still out on the tips. I may end up going with a traditional round type down the road.
Another member and I were just chatting about how little room there is on the passenger side of the C6. You may want to have an exhaust shop check that they can sneak them by or find another route before you order them. Good luck.
**If your missing brake and reverse lights I would check the connection in the engine bay right where the wires exit the firewall. I think its green. Thats where my issue was. The connector itself went bad.**
Thanks for the info, you're looks great. Did you have a muffler shop bend the crossover pipe? To be honest yours looks exactly what I'm wanting to, running the pipes out the back. Thanks too much for the reply, Kirk
I cut up a few 2.5" U pipes and welded them to make the pipes from the headers to just past the trans crossmember. A local shop did the rest. Making up those two pipes myself took $375 off the bill.
I have the same Hooker headers you posted a link to.
I have the quad shocks 4x4 etc, and mine fit pretty good.
The only thing i don't like i where the headers end, they end right under the tranny pan(auto C6) so the exhaust work on the driver side has a few more bends that I'm not to fond of.
I'm running 2.5in duals with flow master knock offs that are dumped before the axle.
Sounds really good in the low rpm and really not to loud on the Hwy.
