Update successful and reported back successful after a few failed attempts. Had to "always allow" the java thing from the Ford site, refreshed and it finally worked.
Haven't looked into all the details of the changes, but it did fix my biggest annoyance of the My Touch system (2013). I can now see the music artist/song of what I'm listening to on the home screen instead of having to switch to the entertainment screen.
Took 25 mins and rebooted a bunch of times, but otherwise smooth.
Ford is a vast organization and every part of it is fighting for a share of resources to do more, better, faster, cleaner etc. So when the lowly geeks start talking about their software upgrade needs to go where the market is heading, they get shouted down by the latest model launches, power plants and engineering. That Mulally even recognized the importance of the ICE & NAV (as they used to call it) as part of the package is a recent phenomenon.
I read a article about tech updates and in this case navigation. A GM VP who is in charge of GM's technology system in cars wrote that he saw his kids not use the in car nav system. He saw them instead take their iPhone and plug it on dash and us that instead. When he asked why "being embarrassed that his own sons where not uses the technology he was in charge of" they simple said that the maps and nav system in the vehicles were always outdated and the iPhone is easier to use.
The GM guy than went to work to allow the next version of vehicle to link to iPhone and nav info from the iPhone on to the GM screens.
This is the point, Ford managers don't get it when it comes to technology - they are great on power train, safety, etc. but tech - always behind the curve. They need to build capability that others in open source world can exploit and grow - of course firewall it from mechanics, but allow people to use and expand capability.
Give people ability to easily get to read only information like vehicle stats, nav system (team with Garmin), sounds system, etc. If they did this - I bet their sales would out paced all other vehicle manufactures because people would be able to customize their vehicles. Look what happen to IBM when they tried to close and cut of innovation.

I'll start with.... I love my truck - keep that in mind as this is a minor gripe.

I'm really kinda ticked/disappointed that I paid top dollar for a nice new 2013 Platinum only to find out that since it has "My Ford Touch", I can't use features that some lesser models have. By this I mean the "Mobile Apps" that work on lower/less expensive models (or so I'm told).

Not a terribly big deal, but I feel like I paid extra for less functionality. I can still do what I need to, I just can't use voice commands to do it (yet).

Did you pull the SD card and look at the files? Sure, the date on the card wallet for mine is May 2013, but the actual map version in the Vesion.txt file on the SD card root directory is 2012.

I went directly to the SYNC site from Ford, and it told me the latest update to SYNC that it had on record and that Jan 4 2013. I'd have to check more to see if that wasn't accurate.
On another topic, did anyone have a problem reporting a successful update back to Ford? I can't seem to get that to work. I updated to the latest version of Java as Ford suggested and have tried to do the report on 2 different computers, both with the same result, a pop-up that says "unsuccessful upload".
Hi n3hcp,
If it seems like you're having issues reporting a successful install via your computer, you can also update your software status with Ford by running a Vehicle Health Report. I find that the voice command VEHICLE HEALTH is the best way to do so. Also, be sure that your phone is connected at the time you run the report, otherwise the information can't be transmitted.

I'll give that a try. Just for the record, I have now tried to report the update from 3 different computers using both the USB drive from the update and a different USB drive used to do the version check procedure, all with the same result.
OK, this is getting silly. I tried to run a Vehicle Health Report and the Sync tells me I can't because the odometer must have at least 200 miles on it first. I have over 5000 !!! Do I need to rack up 200 miles since the last update before it will run the health report???

n3hcp,
Try letting the vehicle run for a few minutes before attempting to run a Vehicle Health Report. The sensors have to be fully engaged before the computer can pull any data from them. If necessary, take a quick spin around the block if it seems like the system still isn't registering. Your vehicle still has such a low mileage that the computer could have mistaken the readouts.

Well, I let it run for 15 minutes then took it for a 4 mile ride. Same results. A pop-up screen that tells me I need at least 200 miles before it can run the report. I guess I must have gremlins!!
And I just tried again to report the update on the computer. When I get to the second screen and click on the "Update files and report update" button, nothing happens. If, after a couple minutes, a click it again I then get the "Upload unsuccessful" message. And, yes, I get the exact same results on 3 different computers, one running Windows 7 and 2 running Windows 8!!
