I need to replace a couple of my door actuators on my '01 F250 Super Crew.....Any tips or advice? It seems that the door trim is pretty easy to remove, but what about the actual solenoids? Are they easy to remove/replace? Thanks...
Redford--thanks for the thread....it sounds workable......I might give it a shot tomorrow.....I hope it works...I sure would like to save the money....
REPAIR, not replace! 99% of the time the problem is the resister that's in the motor. I fixed all 5 of them in my Excursion for the price of a few square inches of aluminum foil. Check out THIS THREAD for instructions on how to fix them once you have them removed.
Crazy 001--Did you check for voltage at the switch in the control unit as well as at the electrical connector of the solenoid, or did you just assume it was a malfunctioning solenoid? I am glad to see photos......I think I'll tackle this tomorrow......

Nope. I'm always one to advocate some real diagnosis, but in this case the fix was free. Just about everyone I've ever read about with inoperative locks had this as the cause, so I figured it was worth a shot. All 5 were fixed using this technique, and up until I sold the Excursion they worked flawlessly.
Please post up if you have any questions. It's been nearly a year but I think I still remember the details!
Yes siree, my '01 had the same thing... wrapped the resistors in copper foil, put them all back together, and years later, still working great.
Only thing is, don't lean on the switch long. The original resistors were there to protect the motors from burning up. If you don't watch it, you can burn those little suckers
