I am in the process of changing plugs on my 02 f250 v10. I got 9 out of 10 done with an issue on my last one. its the passenger side 2nd one back from the front. When I took the coil and boot off, I first noticed the boot was shorter than the rest. when I looked down into the hole I noticed a silver ring on the plug. It will not allow me to get the socket past it to remove the plug. Has anyone ran across this before? any help would be great. Thank you
Is it around the ceramic of the plug or the terminal nut at the top? The spring inside the boot between the coil and plug that transfers the energy is silver and has coils. However that spring is not supposed to slip over the terminal nut. Try to remove it with a needle nose pliers.
Most likely you had a plug blow out. It was fixed with a Dorman Spark plug repair kit, hence the shorter Boot. Here is a good youtube video showing how the repair is done.
The silver ring sits down on the plug best I can tell right on top of the nut. I can see the corners of the nut out past the ring. I will try some different pairs of needle nose today and see. I had no luck with them last night

In my opinion this is a temporary fix. I would look into the timesert repair to fix it.
Dorman probably means for it to be a temporary bandaid. Pretty half assed for the long term IMO.
I have a good friend that is the service writer at my local ford dealer. I dropped it off tonight and they are going to properly repair that plug hole for me. Better be safe then sorry
