What wrong with the current fenders? I love them. I can acutally reach into my toolbox with getting in the truck bed like I had to with the giant, ugly flares on my old dodge. Something happens to the fender you can unbolt and replace it. Ask the GM guys how fun one piece dually bedsides are, they're always broken.
I can definitely see your point of view from functionality but they just don't fit the look of the truck. The big rounded shapes look like the fender off of an old mercury car. They just stick out like a sore thumb

I'd take the modular replacement over fixing the entire bed. Seen to many dually fenders that have suffered from misjudged clearances.
I just dream of a day when they can remove that maddening DPF once and for all, to figure out SOME WAY to do it differently. For those of us who live in states where no DPF would be required to pass the emissions tests (stock, not tuned), it's molar-crackingly frustrating to watch your MPG plummet with the "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" pop-up. These trucks are capable of so much better mileage than they actually get.

they have thousands of folks working on this stuff around the world. Europe has been using DPF and SCR for a LONG time. but you can bet if there was a better way ('better' is a mix of technology, manufacturability, supportability and cost) we would have it. all this extra stuff costs the vendors money too.
but the air pollution curve in the states is down since the 70's, so all this emissions stuff has had some positive effect.
