never tried but my opinion is, unless it's a show vehicle; why?
You can get a 130 amp for cheaper and only need to swap the pulley.

Haven't heard anything bad about them. I think I am going to pick one up myself unless a wiser man comes in here and tells me otherwise.

I actually liked this one because for a high output one it wasn't chrome and I don't want to do a 3g conversion.

of course not but it's an opinion. It is sort of like the PO who painted the top of the engine ford blue but left the bottom half with 30 years of oil cake.

Or maybe...he has a really clean motor and wants a nice alternator.

A hybrid GM and Ford alternator that may still need to mod the bracket to make it work.

3G all the way, why would anyone want anything less?

So, why would you not want the 3G in favor of this? It's 3x as expensive, not available at a parts store and isnt rated as much amperage.

Is there something I dont know?

They are 100% new and made in the US... so that part is good. They are also available up to 200 amps or up to 140 amps in a 1 wire hookup, which is nice for underhood wiring...

Not advocating for them, I've never used one, but those are all high points that would make me consider one.

In fact, I'd probably use this one. Plenty of juice for my rig and easy 1 wire hook up. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tf...rd/model/f-250

100 amps, $83, made in usa from all new parts.

And a 140 amp $160 one that is very very pretty looking, powdercoated black with billet pullies... again, not that anyone needs that but if you want a pretty one thats a good deal on a powerful alternator thats easy to hook up and easy to diagnose.

I would rather pay extra for a new alternator than to pick one out of a junkyard thats been sitting for 5+ years most likely...just my opinion. To each his own and different economical situations allow different people to do different things.
