ok yall
I just got a couple questions that im hoping someone can answer for me...
I just bought my 89 ford f250 4.9l 4 spd manual trans
it drives great, but theres a lil thing tht im tryin to figure out...
its got the dual tanks...when on F tank the gauge always reads empty til truck is turned off and has set for few minutes...then gauge slowly rises...but when placed on R tank, it swings way past full and sits there...
im not exactly sure wht it could be...but I was lookin under on the frame and its got the selector valve and such in place and looks in decent condition...just wanting to get some insight on this...
thanks for your feedback anything helps...
sorry if already posted
Not sure about the front tank, but it seems like the gauge is grounding out when you switch to the rear tank. The front tank could be an issue with a bad connection or frayed wire causing it to have high resistance (resulting in the high resistance empty reading). The front could also be a sending unit issue I suppose.
I wired in a new fuel switcher and wired the sending units to the dash switch in my truck recently because a previous owner had ripped out the front tank, selector valve, and wiring. When I put in a new front tank, I played with different sending units and wiring to figure it all out, and I had an old used sending unit laying around that I tested with the gauge and it was bad and would usually only read up to a little less than 1/4 tank even if it should be at full (maybe similar to your front tank issue???). Sometimes it would drift around and rise and fall a bit.
